UNDER 15s – THE PERFECT ELEVEN

Wingate & Finchley Under 15s team continued their fantastic run of form with a crushing 11-0 win at Eltham in the London County Cup Quarter Final on Sunday.

Following a League & Cup Double in 2009/10 in their first season in The Eastern Junior Alliance League, the U15s capped a remarkable season by winning the All Cities Elite Shield which sees all the top teams from around the UK outside of the professional game compete in a weekend tournament. Tucker O’Donoghue has led the squad to two County Cup Semi Finals this season.

They also sit nicely in 3rd place in the League with games in hand over the top two. Next Sunday, they travel to Danson Sports looking to reach their first final of 2010/11.

CHRISTIAN ARRIVES AT SUMMERS LANE

Wingate & Finchley have captured John Christian from Northwood.

A 22 year old central midfielder player, Christian was awarded Players Player of The Year Award in consecutive seasons at Northwood together with Managers Player of The Season last year, and may well be remembered by Wingate supporters as the scorer of Northwood’s third goal which effectively killed off Wingate’s FA Cup hopes in August.

Manager David Norman is delighted with the addition “John will add quality to an already talented group of players. As a management team we feel it is important to add depth to the squad at every opportunity and John will certainly add quality and competition for places. He is a creative midfielder with a wealth of experience at this level. He has great vision and his delivery is second to none”. Christian is currently suffering from a groin injury which may mean he may have to wait a few days before being available for selection

YOUTH TEAMS PROGRESS TO COUNTY CUP SEMIS

Wingate & Finchley U15s and U16s London teams both progressed to the County Cup Semi Finals. U15s beat Parkfield 4-2 on Sunday to earn a February date at home to the winners of St Lawrence and Hanwell Town.

U16s London had a comfortable 4-1 victory over LOASS and now face an away trip to Cray Valley or Glebe in the last four.

Wingate & Finchley U16s Herts team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Sandgate in their quarter final.

Our U18 team had already booked a semi-final spot at Northwood and several of our youth teams still remain in contention in their respective cup Competitions.

YOUTH TEAMS IN SEARCH OF SILVERWARE ON SUNDAY

While our U18 team have already secured a semi-final spot (to be played in February), three of the teams in Wingate's successful youth structure look forward to their County Cup quarter finals on Sunday.

Following a 4-2 win over Spartans, conquerors of Wingate at the quarter final stage last season, another 2 goal victory over Enfield 1893 sees the Under 15 team face Parkfield in the Middlesex County Cup in the last eight. Sitting top of the League, Wingate will go into the game in confident mood having lost just once this season and netted 15 goals in the previous rounds of the competition. However, the game promises to be an entertaining one as Parkfield have also been on the goal trail, hitting the net 27 times in just 3 fixtures and are yet to be defeated in League or Cup this season.

The U16 Middlesex Cup quarter final also sees the meeting of two high scoring teams. Our U16 Herts team host Sandgate who have a 100% League record and have scored 25 goals in their three Cup outings. Yet, Wingate are experienced Cup specialists having reached the final of the County Cup in the past two seasons and have yet to concede a goal in the Competition in 2010/11. A 7-0 romp over Enfield Town in Round 4 sets up a potential cracker between two of the favourites to lift the trophy.

The London version of the County Cup sees our U16 London squad also with a home tie, against Leyton Orient Advanced Soccer Scholl (LOASS). Only goal difference separates Wingate from second in the League at present and two impressive 4-0 wins in previous rounds gives significant optimism for another triumph, especially with a strong home record this season. LOASS go into the game on a high too after a 3-1 League win last weekend and two comfortable County Cup victories behind them.

We wish all three teams good luck on Sunday and your support would be most welcome. The venues and kick off times are as follows:

U15s v Parkfield

Kick off 10:30am at Woolams Playing Fields, Harpenden Rd, St Albans, AL3 6BB

U16s Herts v Sandgate

Kick off 10:30am at The Hive, Camrose Avenue, Edgeware, HA8 6AG

U16s London v LOASS

Kick off 10:30am at Woolams Playing Fields, Harpenden Rd, St Albans, AL3 6BB

WINGATE BACK ON THE TRAIL OF CUP GLORY

Wingate & Finchley return to cup action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Harrow Borough for a second time in 8 days for a Championship Manager Cup fourth round tie.

Wingate will be confident of pulling off another upset following their victory on penalties at Earlsmead in the London Senior Cup last week.

Having already knocked out Bury Town & Wealdstone, Manager Dave Norman says “ We are looking forward in anticipation to facing another quality Ryman Premier team who are bang in form”.

Norman of course refers to Harrow’s spectacular 6-1 win over Canvey Island on Saturday, their biggest win of the season which has catapulted them to the fringes of the play-off spots.

Wingate suffered a frustrating weekend with the postponement of their League fixture at Romford and are keen to get back on the winning trail as they push for promotion.

Bobby Smith was the hero in the penalty shoot-out win at Harrow on Bank Holiday Monday. However, Smith is ineligible for this fixture having previously played in the competition for AFC Hornchurch
