WINGATE ADD GLAMOUR FRIENDLY IN SPAIN

Wingate & Finchley are pleased to announce that they will face the National side of Gibraltar in a pre-season friendly. The match is taking place on Friday 15th July, as the squad continue their preparations for the forthcoming season with a short 'training camp' trip to Southern Spain next week.

Gibraltar faced League One's Rochdale on Sunday, and despite dominating proceedings lost out 2-1 to their football league counterparts. This game on Friday is therefore certain to be a tough test for the newly-promoted Wingate & Finchley.

FRIENDLY ENDS WITH A VICTORY

Goals in each half from Leon Smith and Sam Sloma helped Wingate & Finchley beat Cockfosters at Barnet's The Hive. After Smith finished off a superb move involving Joe O'Brien and trialist Chris Doyle, Liron Mannie equalised for the reds against his former club. Sloma slotted home midway through the second half with the goalkeeper stranded.

UNDER 16s NEARLY ACES AGAIN

Following last years amazing win at The annual All Cities Elite Shield (ACES) tournament in the U15 age group, Wingate & Finchley were so close to being victorious again in the U16 category this time around.

The tournament sees all League winners from around the UK outside of professional academies compete in a pre season league and knock-out Competition.

After easing through the groups and narrow victories in the quarter and semi final matches, Wingate went down 6-5 on penalties to representatives from Peterborough (Netherton FC) in the final.

The Blues Under 15 team faired well in their first experience of this level of football, but were knocked out at the group stages
