An important game for both clubs, for Edgware a win needed to keep pace with the top of the league, for Wingate & Finchley a win needed to help regain their confidence and stop their slide towards the bottom of the table placings. A bitterly cold but dry afternoon welcomed both teams, and an exciting match was expected.
The first half was so disappointing, early tackles from both teams were awful, and little to no football was played by either side. On 20 minutes Wingate & Finchley were reduced to 10 men when Ahmadou Seye was sent off after a 2nd yellow card offence. The only clever piece of football in the whole half came after 39 mins when from an Edgware corner which was only half cleared a cleverly worked chipped shot from around 25 yds found its way into the top corner of the net to give Edgware the lead.
At half time it looked as if Wingate & Finchley were to be reduced to 9 men when Craig Ellis had words with the referee, who seemed to show a red card, but changed it to a yellow card.
In the second half there was little to no improvement and no chances created by any side. On 60 mins Wingate & Finchley were reduced to 9 men, when Craig Ellis was sent off for a 2nd yellow card offence. The match was at that point over and the most positive factor of the last 30 mins was that the 9 men of Wingate battled well to keep the score down to 1-0.
