**video: Dean Williams opens the scoring from the spot**
Wingate & Finchley progressed to the second round of the London Senior Cup and a local derby against either Hendon or Wealdstone with a hard fought victory over Essex Senior League club Barkingside at the Abrahams Stadium.
A much changed Wingate & Finchley side from that which drew with Ware took time to get into their stride with the first chance coming on 12 minutes when Adam Stolerman freed Leon Wilson whose low shot was well saved by Clarke in the Barkingside goal. Six minutes later and with Wingate & Finchley dominating the midfield Barkingside delivered a long free kick from the Wingate & Finchley right which found the head of Scotchmer but his effort went inches wide then a Bonham effort forced Ed Thompson into a save the remainder of the half saw little goal mouth activity.
The second 45 was a different matter as within seconds of the restart Jay Allen slammed a 30 yard effort just wide and then Joe Faulkner released Leon Wilson who also shot wide. Just before the hour mark and the Blues came really close to the opener as Guy Morris played in Jay Allen whose shot on the turn was pushed to safety by Clarke. It was now all Wingate & Finchley, a double substitution reaped instant dividends a Leon Wilson burst into the area where he was hauled down and DEAN WILLIAMS, with his first touch following his introduction in place of Jay Allen drilled home the penalty, Dean is creeping ever closer to the goal scoring tally of Andy Myers.
With seven minutes remaining the Blues sealed victory as Jirka Houdek found Daniel Stanton whose pass enabled Dean Williams to surge forward and his low cross was rammed home by LEON WILSON. There was still time for a moment of danger Barkingside substitute Bennett forced Ed Thompson into a superb one handed save whilst at the other end substitutes Danny Berg and Anthony Limbrick worked well allowing Limbrick to lob Clarke but the ball fell just onto the roof of the net.
