Dean Williams marked his 200 league and cup start for the Blues with two vital goals as the Blues continued their rise up the Ryman League Division 1 North table.
After less than two minutes Dean Williams struck a shot that was blocked as far as Chris West and when his effort was parried and helped as far as Craig Ellis his screamer skimmed the post, then at the other end Paul Oshin effort from about four yards was superbly saved by Thompson and from the resulting corner Ahmet Rifat cleared off the line.
It looked like it was going to be one of those nights as chance after chance was created by defences were king in the first half and this continued to be illustrated after 22 minutes when a Joe O'Brien corner was flicked on by Chris West to Dean Williams whose effort was cleared off the line and then Craig Ellis shot was saved. On 25 minutes the Enfield defence was breached when a
quick long range free kick was pushed out to Dean Williams who rolled the ball into the empty net only for an offside flag to prematurely halt the celebrations. Six minutes after thinking they had taken the lead the Blues were grateful to Jirka Houdek for being in the right place to clear another effort off the line before Ed Thompson produced two more outstanding saves and Craig Ellis cleared behind for a corner which ended with the Wingate upright ensuring the scores were level at the break.
Minutes into the second half and Stanton for Enfield was in acres of space but directed his
header over the top.
Eight minutes into the half and from a long ball DEAN WILLIAMS surged through waited for the keeper to commit himself and from edge of the area gave the Blues the advantage they were never to surrender, indeed just after the hour mark a long looping cross was misjudged by the Enfield keeper and Wingate substitute Hardy Pinto-Moreira squared the ball
back to DEAN WILLIAMS who rolled the ball into the empty net. Further chances fell to Williams but he could not mark the night with an hat trick but his goals ensured the Blues moved up the table.
As Williams said after the game " Saturday against Enfield Town is now the biggest game of the season." From here on in every game is going to be
big as the Blues look to maintain their form of 2007 which has seen one defeat this year.
