Wingate & Finchley 1-1 Enfield Town
Saturday 17th February 2007
So the run goes on as the Blues fought hard for a point that could be vital come the end of the season, this draw means it is now one defeat in 11 games. Guy Helman ventured forward as early as the fifth minute weaving his way through the visiting defence only to be denied by former West Ham keeper Jerome John, John was in action again five minutes later when Joe O’Brien surged forward but could not find a way beyond John.

At the other end Andy Jones saw his drive blocked behind before Matt Negus charged to the bye-line but his cross was too deep and no Enfield Town player was deep enough to test Thompson. Chances came and went but it was goalless at half time. Moments into the second half and again Guy Helman was causing problems with a square pass to Hardy Pinto-Moreira but his shot was saved and from the clearance former Hendon striker Ricci Crace directed his header over with the goal almost at his mercy.

On 58 minutes the Blues took the lead with Dean Williams charging to the bye-line and laying the ball back to Leon Osei who found Darren Assiamah, Assiamah helped the ball onto JIRKA HOUDEK who rifled a magnificent goal from eight yards out. Enfield Town introduced Dean Nyman to the fray and he was given licence to roam on the flank which he did catching Helman out of position and creating chances for the visitors, from one such burst Nyman crossed to the far post where the ball was headed back to RICCI CRACE who didn’t miss.

From this point on it was a back to the wall operation for the Blues as the visitors launched attack after attack and after a move involving Steve Yealandia and substitute Dean Nyman the ball fell to Stephen Opoka whose header went just the wrong side of the post and then with three minutes remaining it was hearts in mouth time for the Blues followers and Nyman beat the Wingate & Finchley offside trap and sent over a low cross which evaded the onrushing Enfield Town forwards.

A point gained by the Blues and with results going their way the Blues remain sixth in the table.
