Wingate & Finchley 3-0 Enfield Town
Saturday 20th October 2007
Wingate & Finchley made it two wins in a week as high flying Enfield Town were put to the sword at The Abrahams Stadium. Enfield made a lively start and were first to almost every ball as they looked to create chances from both flanks, however, lack of players in the middle to apply the finishing touch or good defensive work from the Blues prevented any efforts on goal although James Cole and Marc Weatherstone had to be alert in making good clearances.

Jamie Nay should have given the visitors the lead on 10 minutes when he found himself in acres of space with only King to beat but he directed his effort wide of the mark, four minutes later and Enfield were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal as former Enfield man DANIEL CLARKE collected the ball on the bye-line and cut back virtually along the edge of the six yard area and drilled his shot under Hasler for goal number one. Ten minutes later and a superb diagonal pass from Joe O’Brien allowed Bradshaw-Brown to sprint clear and cut inside before seeing his shot parried into the path of DANIEL CLARKE who rolled home for his and the Blues second.

Three minutes later it was the turn of TASHAN BRADSHAW-BROWN to get on the score sheet when after referee Sampson played the advantage Bradshaw-Brown kept his head and rounded Hasler to roll the ball into the empty net. Minutes before the break and the Blues should have added to their advantage with Clarke unselfishly turning provider and laying the ball back to Weatherstone who scuffed his shot and Enfield cleared the danger.

Where the first half had been all action the second 45 was different as Enfield looked to prevent the Blues scoring any more whilst looking unlikely to get on the score sheet at the other end. The best chances fell to home substitute James Gershfield who tested Hasler with two efforts but no further goals come only two red cards – one for Wingate & Finchley substitute Calvin Petrie who saw red only seven minutes after coming on for two tackles in the space of a minute and the other for Enfield Towns Simon Tickner for a tackle on Craig Ellis.

This win sees the Blues move up to 11th in the table and gives confidence ahead of next Saturdays trip to AFC Sudbury and Tuesday nights Middlesex Cup Match at AFC Hayes.
