Wingate & Finchley 0-2 Harrow Borough
Tuesday 13th March 2007
Wingate & Finchley saw their last hopes of a Cup Final disappear against Ryman Premier League side Harrow Borough at the Abrahams Stadium. With Manager Adam Lee giving a rest to some players and allowing others to start it took the Blues time to get going permitting Harrow Borough to exploit this when after only eight minutes David Lovell turned an effort from Danny McGonigle behind for a corner which was swiftly followed by another corner that was played to Gary Meakin whose deep cross to the far post was met by the head of DANNY LEACH who made no mistake.

The advantage was doubled on 21 minutes when McGonigle created space for SIMON RICHARDSON to run into and with Lovell on the edge of his area Richardson finished well. On 32 minutes the Blues won a corner and from a series of efforts the ball finally came to Hardy Pinto-Moreira whose shot struck the base of the post rolling along the goalline without crossing and being cleared to safety.

Where it had been 90% Harrow Borough pressure in the first half the second was nearly all Wingate as form the off Danny Berg played a quick one-two with Dean Williams and Berg fired over, this was the prelude for Wingate & Finchley's second half with good build up play failing to get a finish exemplified on 61 when Dean Williams fired a low effort across the six yard line but no-one was on hand to apply the finishing touch that would have set up an enthralling last half hour.

A thrilling final five minutes almost arose with Pinto-Moreira driving an effort against the bar but it was not the Blues night and they now concentrate on the final 11 Ryman League matches and getting as high a finish in the table as possible.
