Wingate & Finchley 5-1 Ilford
Saturday 3rd March 2007
The plaudits for this performance will quite rightly be taken by substitute Leon Wilson who scored a hat trick in 64 minutes having come on to replace Hardy Pinto-Moreira, Wilson’s treble was complimented by a Dean Williams double which saw him equal Andy Myers 90 goals for the Club since the Blues joined the Ryman League in season 1995/6.

DEAN WILLIAMS opened the scoring in five minutes reacting quickest to the loose ball and driving a fierce effort beyond the reach of Rowley in the Ilford goal, the Blues had further chances in the next ten minutes striking the cross bar and then when Williams saw Rowley out of position and his lob landed inches wide. Ilford had failed to find the back of the net in their six previous matches this run ended on 16 minutes when CHRIS STEVENS showed a goal poachers instinct to crash home a close range effort after the Blues had failed to clear a corner. On 26 minutes the Blues replaced Hardy Pinto-Moreira with Leon Wilson and within four minutes a corner was swung over to beyond the far post where Billy Amarteifio climbed highest and his downward header was rifled into the net by WILSON.

Four minutes before the interval Craig Ellis found Dean Williams whose cross was well controlled by the ever improving Leon Osei who having waited for Rowley to commit himself struck for goal only to see his effort cleared off the line. The early part of the second half was quiet and only burst into life after 63 minutes when as with the goal Wingate & Finchley failed to clear their lines leaving Matthew Keogh with a glorious chance to level the game but he wasted it and from then on it was one way traffic as the Blues took total control. After 68 minutes Darren Assiamah who replaced Mark Gradosielski beat the offside trap and rolled the ball under the body of Rowley only for the effort to rebound of the bar and away to safety, then on 71 minutes Dean Williams burst into the area and under a double challenge won a penalty which LEON WILSON struck low to the keepers left to increase the Blues advantage.

WILSON completed his treble three minutes later surging into the area and drilling home at the near post. The scoring was rounded off on 79 minutes when WILLIAMS fired home his second and the Blues fifth, there was still time for Williams to attempt an acrobatic bicycle kick which was turned away to safety. The Blues took all the points and keep their incredible run of 2007 going and saw them named Ryman League Division 1 North team of the month for February. A wonderful accolade for a good month and still the run continues.
