| It was a chilly but bright day at the Harry Abraham stadium and there were lots of spectators due to the successful open day.
Wingate were much the better side in the first half with Billy Amartfeio and Ahmet Rifat looking like a really good defensive partnership. Even though Wingate had so much possession they never made any goal scoring opportunities. Northwood had little of the ball but it was them who took the lead on the stroke of half time. Wingate’s David Allen miss-kicked the ball and it went straight to the feet of Northwood’s Michael Gordon who rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.
Even though they were 1-0 down Wingate could be very happy with their performance. The second half was very much the same as the first with Wingate being the better side without creating much. To add more attacking threat, manager Mike Stone brought on James Gershfield and Tashan Bradshaw-Brown.
Wingate were getting closer to their ever illusive goal with shots from Jerome Hall and Ahmet Rifat. Unfortunately they did not find the goal they craved and slumped to a 1-0 defeat. Despite the defeat, manager Mike Stone should not be despondent after a solid performance.
