On the most beautiful of days, sun shining, warm, spring weather in early February, Wingate & Finchley made the short trip to Potters Bar for a Ryman League Division 1 North League match. On arriving at the ground, weather conditions were perfect for football, the pitch though one could not say the same. Hard in places, very soft in other areas, and very uneven.
The first chance of the game fell to Wingate & Finchley after 26 mins. A Jerome Boyce free kick found the head of Daniel Clarke, but header goes wide. A minute later, the only bit of classy football that was to be played in the first half. A flowing movement involving Andy Edmunds, Kieran Street and Craig Ellis finding Daniel Clarke who's shot goes just wide.
Potters Bar only worthy effort of the first half occurred in the 30th minute was a shot from 25 yards, but a fine save by Phil Carpenter making his debut in the Wingate & Finchley goal prevented Potters Bar taking the lead. The half petered out with no further mentionable moments.
