Wingate and Finchley’s second string lost two points rather than gained one in this hard fought encounter at Berkhamsted. Leading 2-1 with two minutes to play Dan Doran levelled the score for the hosts against the run of play in this second period. Indeed Berkhamsted took the lead, the result of a Wingate hand-ball in the box from which Neil Richardson made no mistake from the spot. Neither keeper got their hands dirty in this half – few efforts from either side, however Blues Dan Anfossi made a great save in the 27th minute from a clear run to goal by a home forward. Wingate launched some exciting attacks in this first period and deserved the equaliser from HUSSAIN ISA direct from a free kick deep inside the Berko half on the right.
Wingate upped the tempo in the second half outplaying their illustrious opponents and indeed took the lead in the 56th minute – a quick throw-on from Keiron Street reached Dale Archer who dummied his challenger, played it to ELVIS BALIC who crashed the ball home. Minutes later Daniel Anfossi made a point-blank save followed by a good move with captain Danny Berg picking out Hussein Isa with a superb pass only for Isa to bang the ball over with only the keeper to beat. Three minutes remaining and the Blues should have gone further ahead – Hussein Isa beat his man, slipped it to sub Nkazi Dayo who cracked it wide. However against the run of play Dan Doran ensured his side would not go back in to the dressing room without a point. Wingate played some fast attacking football particularly in the second half with Hussein Isa playing a pivotal role.
