Wingate & Finchley Res 3-3 Dunstable Town Res
Saturday 9th February 2008
report by Saul Cohen
It was a beautiful, sunny day at the Harry Abraham Stadium, Wingate & Finchley put out a very strong side against top of the table Dunstable Town. The pitch was in great condition, so it was set to be an excellent game and did not fail to meet my expectations.

The game got off to a flying start, especially for Wingate. After only 1 minute 50 seconds Jamie Shaw curled in a beautiful free kick from the wide left angle of the area, which flew past the keeper into the top right corner of the goal. Then 1 minute later Diasha Charles scored with his first touch of the game, volleying it in the bottom left corner after a cross from the edge of the area by Jamie Shaw.

Unfortunately the great start by Wingate was short-lived, as Dunstable's Michael O'Brien slotted home after a great pass from Ryan Cowloy. This crazy start to the game had not ended. After 6 minutes Jamie Shaw got his second goal of the game as he latched onto a superb cross from Theo Morris. With still only 11 minutes on the clock, Dunstable got their second goal; Terry Billy with the finish after Michael O'Brien had hit the crossbar with a free-kick. After their second goal Dunstable had most of the first half with chances for Ryan Quinn and Darryl Elliot.

Half Time and Wingate will be happy with the result so far but not so much with the performance as they let Dunstable back into the game.

The second half got underway with only one change for either side. 2-time scorer Jamie Shaw had a groin injury and was replaced by Tope Abuoloto. The second half did not get off to a lively start compared to the first. But out of the blue a long ball was played that Wingate keeper Dan Anfossy miss-judged and Dunstable's Terry Billy was there to tap it into the empty net. However Dan made up for it with a great stop from Terry Billy. In the last ten minutes it was all Wingate & Finchley pressure and it looked imminent that they would get a winning goal with great chances for substitute Ben Lauffer, Claudio Dikziko and Tope Abuoloto.

There would be 2 minutes of stoppage time. In the remaining seconds Claudio Dikziko played in a cross that Tope Abuoloto knocked down for Wingate captain Andy Glynn, and on the half volley he hit the post.

It was full time and a good result for Wingate & Finchley.
