An early brace form JAMIE SHAW set the seal on this three-pointer forty miles up the M1 and in freezing conditions. Despite Wingates’ early dominance Newport Pagnell proved that they are more than a service station on the M1 and came back strongly for the rest of the game, but the north Londoners held out. In the fourth minute new signing Arian Maleknia floated the ball over from the right for Jamie Shaw to nut the ball home. Wingate were well on top in this opening spell against bottom side Newport Pagnell Town and a through ball from Dale Archer found Jamie Shaw who fired home his, and the teams’ number two.
But the hosts would have none of it and made a game of it for the remaining eighty or so minutes. Theo Morris on the right flank gave a good account of himself speeding in to the opposing half to service the ball for others or having a bash himself. In fact just before the break he fired wide from a pass by Leigh Hatton. In to part two and keeper Daniel Anfossy stopped the ball on the line in a goalmouth scramble and in the 61st Elliott Green could have, and should have put Wingate three up but he thumped the ball just over the bar from close in. Minutes later Newport Pagnell closed in and smacked a ball against the Wingate post as they put the Blues under pressure.
Eight minutes from the end keeper Daniel Anfossy made a brilliant save from a three man Newport break. A good result against a side who hardly looked a side holding up the table.
