Wingate and Finchley’s reserves consolidated their top three position in the fourteen team Suburban North Division with this excellent victory over Newport Pagnell who in turn played some good football and indeed created chances which Blues keeper David Lovell excelled. James Gershfield was the “force-dejour” on the right as provider and sharp-shooter which paid off in the 18th minute when a corner was floated in to the box only for Gershfield to pounce on a lose ball and open the account.
Ex-Staines Town Hussein Isa doubled the lead in the 35th threading round the Newport Pagnell defence, pulled the trigger leaving the visiting keeper stranded. For the first ten minutes of the second half Wingate camped in the opposing half only for sub Lee Rosamond to collect a through ball and finish off. But it was an entertaining affair – well done to both sides who played some engaging football.
