It was a grey, cold day and Wingate had been on a great run of form after beating local rivals Boreham Wood 6-2.
Wingate got off to bright start having most of the possession but without creating very much. The first chance of the match went to the visitors, AJ misjudged a long, high pass and Sandhurst’s no.10 latched on to it. Thankfully for Wingate he fumbled it wide.
Wingate’s pressure finally paid off with a goal from new signing Bernard Colliene. He lobbed the goalie after a defense-splitting pass by Daniel Stanton.
A mere 2 minutes later just on the half hour, Wingate & Finchley gave away a silly free-kick that Sandhurst’s no.3 drove into the near post, which caught out keeper Phil Carpenter.
At half time it was 1-1 an average result so far which was fair based on the performance.
A few changes were made by fill-in manager Ben Winston bringing on Danny Cole and Leigh Hatton.
Unfortunately for Wingate & Finchley they conceded a goal early in the second half. A major mix-up between Phil Carpenter and Shaq left the goal open for Sandhurst’s no.9 to tap into the empty net.
It was a pretty eventless second half with Sandhurst just holding on to their narrow lead. The best shot of the half came from Wingate’s James Osbourne. He smashed a 20 yard volley which scraped the crossbar.
It was full time and a disappointing result for Wingate.
