Wingate & Finchley 3-0 AFC Sudbury
Tuesday 16th January 2007
Wingate & Finchley continued to build on their impressive form of late as they tore into AFC Sudbury at the Abrahams Stadium having the game sown up at half time with one of the best displays of football at the Abrahams Stadium for a long time.

It was the visitors who looked the busier in the opening 10 minutes forcing the young Blues side with a midfield of three 18 year olds and a 16 year old back into their own half but then the Blues exploded into action winning a corner at the Summers Lane end of the ground which Leon Osei whipped into the near post where 16 year old DARREN ASSIAMAH flicked into the net with the outside of his boot. Every time Wingate & Finchley went forward now there was danger for the visitors and six minutes later another Osei corner found the head of the towering CHRIS WEST who doubled the Blues lead, this was a dream start and it got better as on 25 minutes Dean Williams was released and used his pace to bear down on goal only to be pulled back as he was about to shoot. Joe O’Brien and Leon Osei set the ball up and with a four man wall set by the visitors it was OSEI who confidently took one stride and curled the kick into the net with Nathan Munson in the visiting goal rooted to the spot.

Three goals in the opening 25 minutes and still the Blues created chances with every set play looking like a goal would come but it was from open play that the Blues next chance came with Mark Gradosielski releasing the superb Leon Osei whose fierce drive was pushed away by Munson this time without a Wingate & Finchley playing able to get close. 10 minutes into the second half and another set play for the Blues and again Osei was at the heart of the action finding the head of Ahmet Rifat whose header was pushed away and from the follow up action the Blues won a corner which reached Joe O’Brien whose shot was deflected into the path of Assiamah but his follow up shot rebounded off the bar.

The Blues back line that had been so impressive on Saturday was rarely troubled although on the hour they were beaten when a James Rowe throw in found Michael Brothers whose acrobatic shot fell just over the bar. There was nothing that could take the gloss of this performance which sees the Blues now not having conceded a goal in 235 minutes of action in 2007 and they also have the joint second best defensive record in Ryman League 1 North. Saturday sees the Blues travel to play Enfield at Ware which will be another test of character which this side have in abundance.
