Wingate & Finchley U18 6-2 Buckhurst Hill U18
Sunday 9th March 2008
Andy Zeller continued his impressive start as Manager of the Under 18 team with a dominant performance against the League’s bottom side.

In front of an expectant crowd at The Abrahams Stadium, the opening encounters were scrappy. Oliver De Wan and Anthony Bayele had efforts from outside of the area but there was little goalmouth action. Danayotios Behiri was assured at the back and was the pick of players in the first period.

The visitors broke the deadlock midway through the half with a neat chip over the helpless Alex Flett following a quickly taken free kick.

Oliver De Wan was a constant threat and a weaving run from midfield ended with Anthony Bayele tapping in from 5 yards after Charlie Bostock had parried a De Wan shot.

Wingate & Finchley were quickest out of the blocks in the second half. More measured and patient football provided 45 minutes of attractive play that brought five goals and several other good chances.

Jonathan Young was introduced as a substitute on his debut and made an immediate impact. On 53 minutes he converted a right wing cross from Anthony Bayele and just 2 minutes later coolly slotted home from 12 yards following a strong burst from midfield by Ben Ellis.

After 65 minutes the visitors clawed their way back in the game with a neat turn and finish from Lee Samways. However, the home side always looked in control and put the game beyond doubt with another quick two-goal burst. Anthony Bayele slotted home to make it 4-2 and then completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time as he capitalised on a rebound from his initial shot after more good work from Ben Ellis in the build up. Bayele now has six goals in his last five matches.

Substitute Matt Langley completed the rout in injury time, sliding the ball home from a pinpoint pass from the excellent Shai Revivo
