A lacklustre display saw The Blues suffer a heavy defeat at table topping Manford Way. Wingate gave themselves a mountain to climb as the home side raced into a 3-0 lead inside 10 minutes. On 15 minutes, Michael Yu’s run and shot was the first effort at goal from the shell-shocked Blues. Goalkeeper, Alex Flett gave another consistently strong performance, coming off his line quickly to block the onrushing Manford Way striker on 20 minutes. Ben Ellis’s tricky run and shot was blocked, but four minutes later Wingate conceded a fourth goal after more sloppy marking at the far post. On 42 minutes, a vicious in swinging corner from Cullen French caused confusion in the home penalty area but Wingate couldn’t quite scramble the ball home. However, they were fortunate not to concede again as the ball went wide from a clear opening for Manford right on half time. Five minutes into the second half, Michael Yu capped a fine individual display with an early contender for Goal of The Season. He collected the ball on the left wing, made his way to the edge of the penalty area and curled a unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net giving the stunned goalkeeper no chance. This lifted The Blues but Manford Way’s neat interplay and passing throughout the game ensured there would be no remarkable fight back. Manford Way saw two further efforts disallowed for offside, the second following a point blank save from Flett. Midway through the second half, the Assistant’s flag again came into play as Matt Langley’s cool finish at the far post was ruled out. Michael Yu continued to be a thorn in the Manford defence as a quick one-two with Daniel Orgel ended with Yu making the keeper work from 15 yards out. Two quick goals from the home side made the score 6-1 although the ball appeared to be out of play in the move that saw the sixth easily slotted home. Daniel Orgel gained some consolation for the visitors in injury time, scoring at the second time of asking following intelligent play from Matt Langley.
