Thurrock U18 4-2 Wingate & Finchley U18
Sunday 9th September 2007
With only eleven players available to open the Under-18’s league programme, Wingate were up against a fit Thurrock side who took the Blues to the cleaners in the second half – some excellent goalkeeping from Alex Elf kept the oppositions score line to just four, three of them coming after the break. But Thurrock didn’t have it all their own way despite opening their account in the third minute with a lob.

But in the 16th DANIEL GLAUDE levelled from a goalmouth scramble – a free-kick from Joe Killingback on the left near the goal area in to the box for Glaude to finish, 1-1. Both sides created chances with Thurrock letting fly long distance pokes well wide of the mark. Some excellent defending and distribution from Kieron Street kept Thurrock at bay. Wingate launched some useful attacks, and three minutes to the break ALFIE BARTRAM curled a shot in to the far corner from a Ben Ellis pass to give the visitors the lead.

In to the second period and Thurrock turned on some entertaining football – no subs available for manager Craig Falconbridge to replace tired legs, and it told. Just after the restart Thurrock had a goal disallowed for offside then a powerdrive hit the inside of the post, rolling along the goal-line and cleared.

Three goals in fifteen minutes from the East Londoners and it was all over. Fitness levels told and maybe with extra training these skilful young men will do the club credit in the months ahead. Men of the match – Kieron Street and Alex Elf.

Wingate and Finchley ;- Alex Elf, Jimmy Lawler, Chbueze Anyaegbu, Lee Hatton, Kieron Street, Daniel Glaude (c), Harry Jones, Joe Killingback, Matt Langley, Ben Ellis, Alfie Bartram.
