Wingate & Finchley 1-2 Waltham Forest
Saturday 31st March 2007
Wingate & Finchley's faint hopes of the play offs ended on Saturday as victory for Waltham Forest ensured that The Stags keep their hopes alive.

The Blues began brightly forcing a series of early corners but missing leading scoring Dean Williams who moved to Harlow Town in the week could not find a way past Jason Willis in the Forest goal. Danny Honeyball soon called Ed Thompson into action with a low, long range curling free kick that Thompson watched well and pushed away to safety. On 31 minutes Shaun Evans collected an under hit pass and surged forward towards the Blues goal, Evans struck a fierce effort that rebounded of Thompson's body and into the path of JEFF HAMMOND who made no mistake.

Wingate & Finchley introduced Darren Assiamah to the action at half time in place of Stephen Badu and whatever was said in the home dressing room had an effect as the Blues looked lively and likely to trouble Willis and from a Daniel Stanton corner Darren Assiamah headed over the top. With twenty minutes left Waltham Forest made sure of victory as SHAUN EVANS timed his run to perfection evading the offside trap and striking a low effort into the net. With 12 minutes left a deep free kick was not dealt with by the Stags defence and HARDY PINTO-MOREIRA poked home his first goal for the Blues. Pinto-Moreira had a chance to level the game when from a Leon Osei free kick he headed over but it was not to be.
