Cockfosters U18 1-6 Wingate & Finchley U18
Wednesday 22nd November 2006
On Wednesday night the Wingate and Finchley youth team travelled to Cockfosters in the league, looking to add to their present three game winning streak, that has seen the team through to the second round of the League and Middlesex County Cup as well as progressing in a third cup competition. Tonight’s game saw the side return to league duty, looking to bag the three points in their quest to move up the league table. On an uneven and extremely damp surface, Wingate’s youth team tried to pass the ball around and when successful, produced some lovely spells of football.

After around twenty minutes and with neither side producing any clear cut chances, it was Wingate who opened the scoring after a superb ball from Alfie Bartram in behind the Cockfosters defence put in striker TASHAN BRADSHAW who just beat the goalkeeper to the ball to dribble past him and to place the ball into the empty net to give Wingate the lead. Ten minutes later, it was Bradshaw who squared the ball for strike partner, LEE ROSAMOND to slot home from close range to double the Wingate advantage. The third soon followed as it was BRADSHAW again who turned his defender to fire home past the Cockfosters’ keeper to put the Wingate and Finchley youth team firmly in front.

There was still time on the first half for Wingate to score another, with the pick of the first half goals, after a terrific five man passing move starting from Jimmy Lawler at left back, culminating in midfielder DANNY GLAUDE bursting through the middle of the Cockfosters’ defence to strike to ball into the top right hand corner of the net. However the first half was not as one sided as the score line suggests with Wingate goalkeeper Ben de la Fuente producing two fantastic saves to maintain their advantage. During the second half the condition of the pitch started to deteriorate and Wingate’s passing football was as a result heavily interrupted.

The home side did have more chances in the second period after some sloppy errors from Wingate but Ben de la Fuente was on hand to nullify any of the danger. LEE ROSAMOND made it 5-0 to Wingate after Bradshaw again squared for him to slot home after 25 minutes of the second period. Ten minutes later ROSAMOND was on hand again to complete his hat-trick after some good work from David Cohen in midfield, who chipped the ball over the flat Cockfosters’ defence, in the path of Rosamond who coolly lobbed the oncoming keeper. Cockfosters continued to have numerous chances to get back into the game but were denied by a combination of the outstanding de la Fuente in goal as well as the woodwork, which was hit on three separate occasions.

They did however reduce the deficit with 10 minutes to go after miscommunication between defender and goalkeeper resulted in the Cockfosters’ striker running through the middle and tapping home into an empty net. Striker Lee Rosamond’s hat trick now takes his record to a very impressive 10 goals in just 5 games for Wingate’s youth team, who also made it four wins on the spin. Wingate and Finchley’s youth team are next in action on Thursday 30th November as they travel to Haringey Borough as they look to build on their impressive run of form.
