Pre Season friendly

Wingate & Finchley's fourth pre-season game ended in victory, but the Blues had to come back from behind twice at Garden Walk.

Wingate had the first chance of the game when Joe Sharpe's free kick was palmed over the bar by Royston keeper, Yates on 10 minutes. Five minutes later, the visitors had the change to take the lead again but Tommy Tejan-Sie sliced his effort over from the edge of the penalty box. Wingate were made to pay for missed chances as Chris Watters slotted home from Rhys Hoenes' backheeled pass to put the hosts 1-0 up on 17 minutes.

Wingate looked to bounce back immediately but Rob Laney's powerful strike was pushed wide by Yates after Martel Powell skipped past two men to find Laney in space on the right hand side of the box. Sharpe's corner on 29 minutes was played short to Tejan-Sie, who dummied Royston's Powell, but his powerful effort was palmed wide by Yates - with Wingate piling on the pressure. And soon, the pressure was to pay off as a Sharpe corner evaded everyone in the box, Tejan-Sie picked the ball up on the touchline and crossed into the box. His cross was met with a Billy Healey header, which was tapped home by Laney from 3 yards out to level the affairs at half time.

The second half began well for the hosts as Hoenes picked the ball up on the left wing and curled the ball home superbly, giving Bobby Smith no chance in the Wingate net to make it 2-1 after 51 minutes. The lead lasted no longer than a minute, however. Tejan-Sie, at the heart of the action, crossed the ball in low from the left side and Healey stepped back and placed the ball into the bottom corner to level the tie.

Less than ten minutes later, the turnaround was complete. Healey sprinted into the box, Yates miscontrolled his interception and Karl Oliyide was on hand to stab home from 6 yards to make it 3-2 to Wingate. Tejan-Sie's excellent game continued and he came close to getting on the scoresheet himself, but his fierce drive was pushed over for a corner after superb footwork from the midfielder. In the 89th minute, Mechak Williams tapped home from inside the six yard box after a square pass from Michael Buckley to make it 4-2.
