Wingate & Finchley made the short trip along the A10 to Cheshunt looking to continue their positive start to pre-season. Despite new summer signings Shane Gore, Sean Cronin and Steve Wales on show, it was Luke Ifil who would make headlines. Karl Stevenson played Wales away for a one-on-one chance which was denied as Rob Laney followed-up hitting his effort wide. Laney was involved again finding Ifil who broke down the right, before he squared to Alfie Bartram whose attempt also missed the target. The Blues' pressure paid off in the 25h minute after Billy Healey was fouled inside the area, who then confidently slotted his penalty into the bottom corner. At the other end, Billy Jones forced John Mbamarah into making a good block which saw a corner rewarded, the resulting play saw the bar rattle as the hosts came close to an equaliser. With 36 on the clock, a well-taken free-kick deflected into the path of Cronin who turned back towards his own goal allowing Jones to steal possession and finish across Gore. Just before half-time, Ifil produced a moment of brilliance. With superb vision and technique, he magnificently chipped his attempt from 35-yards which dipped over the line restoring the lead. Immediately after the restart, Joe Foley made a vital block with his chest to keep the Ryman Premier outfit ahead. As the 69th minute approached, Bartram's cutting pass played Ifil away who calmly rounded the keeper before seeing the ball into an empty net. Bobby Smith made a customary stunning save to keep out a well-taken free-kick which beat the wall as it began to creep inside the near post. 10 minutes from the end, the Ambers reduced the deficit after Liam Hope guided his touch from a floated-in set-piece away from Smith. Though any hope of drawing level was put to rest as Keith Rowland's side held out for back-to-back victories.
