The Under 16s signed off for the summer with a friendly match vs Maccabia GB select side U16s. It proved to be a real test for boys having only played one friendly match since the end of April. Maccabia kicked off and for the first few minutes played some delightful football, whilst the Wingate side chased shadows and found their bearings. Once they did find their bearings their was no stopping them, they scored the first goal of the game with a great incisive move. Jake Howell found Javin Dougan on the right he laid the ball back to Konstantine, who found Nic Kouroushi, he inter changed passes with Jacob Elmon on the edge of the box, who laid off for Nic Kouroushi to fire home into the far bottom corner on 7 minutes. 1-0 Wingate. Wingate started to dominate, Alex Hadjithemistou drive forward with Phil Alexandrou, the ball found Javin Douglas on the edge of the box, but he was fouled. Direct free kick. Nic Kouroushi placed the ball down, Javin ran across it and Nicholas curled the ball into the far corner with a sublime free kick and 2-0 to Wingate. Maccabia were still very dangerous and from a quick break down the right hand side and a low cross, Jamie Rawsthorne produced a fantastic double save from a low shot and saving the rebound on the line. Wingate nearly scored again Josh Adewoye twisted and turned in the box before firing a low shot which the keeper brilliantly saved. Goal three came soon after, a quick interplay in midfield, found Ben Reynolds on the right side of centre just outside the Maccabia penalty area, he the rifled in a low hard drive into the far corner for 3-0 and his first Wingate goal, 3-0 at half time for Wingate. The second half was a lot tighter, and chances were scarce. Wingate still with the better of chances with a great move down the left Oliver Begueria's pin point cross, but Javin Dougan's header saved. Jake Howell sent in a ferocious shot from the edge of the box that just went over, and as the boys tired and Maccabia probed they got the goal their second half performance deserved with a fine shot in off the post, for 3-1.
