Pre-season preview - week three

Our pre-season preparations have continued this week with another couple of good results. First up saw the Blues travel into Hertfordshire to face Ware FC on Tuesday night. Two goals in the first half and another five minutes from time saw us bring back an excellent 3-0 win. On Saturday, we returned to the Maurice Rebak Stadium for the first time this summer to face Peterborough U21s. With Peterborough's first team out in Spain, the visiting side was largely made up of the Posh's talented youngsters coming through their U18 and U21 sides, as well as trialists with the likes of chairman Barry Fry and Academy Director Dan Robinson overseeing proceedings, the game ending goalless on this occasion.

On Tuesday night (7.45pm kick off) we will welcome Brentwood Town for our final pre-season fixture at The Football Pad in Barnet Lane this summer. Another side nicknamed "The Blues", Brentwood won their first pre-season fixture 3-2 on Thursday night against Saffron Waldon Town. Brentwood finished 5th in Isthmian North (Step 4) last season to reach the playoffs where they beat Bury Town (our FA Trophy opponents last season) in the semi-final to set up a clash against Bowers & Pitsea, eventually losing on penalties after the sides couldn't be separated in 120 minutes.

On Saturday we will be back at the Maurice Rebak Stadium to face National League opposition in the form of Aldershot Town. The Shots have faced local sides Badshot Lea and Fleet Town so far in pre-season and will play the likes of Bristol City and Crawley Town before the season commences. Aldershot narrowly missed out on a playoff place in National League last season, finishing 2 points behind Halifax Town in 7th, meaning that they will play in the National League again in 2024/25 for the 12th consecutive season since being relegated from League Two in 2012/13.

On Saturday, we announced our 8th signing of the summer with Ahmet Rifat moving to sign talented young midfielder Ryan Lowe upon the expiry of his contract with League Two side Colchester United. Lowe captained Colchester at youth level and spent time on loan at Margate FC last season, making 5 appearances in the Isthmian Premier division. Welcome Ryan!
