Wingate bring back three points from South London

Wingate & Finchley bounced back from the disappointing last minute defeat to Potters Bar on Boxing Day by taking all three points from Kingstonian on Saturday. Kingstonian came into the game in the relegation zone with 12 points from the first half of the season, but recent results between these two have been very close, meaning the Blues knew not to underestimate this opponent.

Wingate took the lead on 28 minutes through Zack Newton who bagged his second in as many games with another great finish, as he moves onto 5 goals for the season. Within a minute, Kingstonian were on level terms, taking the ball straight up the other end with the finish converted by Emmanuel Adebiyi for his second in the three matches.

Shortly before the hour mark, Kingstonian failed to clear their lines from a corner and after numerous blocked attempts, eventually Elliot Long got the finishing touch to convert for his 14th in all competitions this season. Both sides had chances in the closing stages but the Blues held on to retain 4th position in the table.

Another three points secured to round out 2023 in what has been a successful year on the pitch for the boys. The Blues have played 43 league fixtures in 2023, winning 21, drawing 4 and losing 18. To kick off 2024 we are back in action at the Maurice Rebak Stadium on New Year’s Day against Cheshunt, and will look to continue our good form into the new year.
