Wingate & Finchley continued their pre-season preparations with a long trip to North Wales to play Prestatyn Town - high flyers of the Welsh Premier League. The Blues, missing several regulars, started brightly. They played an elegant passing game, despite the players not quite enjoying the playing surface. The bright start was halted by a goal from the home side in the 20th minute. Player-manager Neil Gibson managed to shimmy his way through several challenges before slotting the ball past Gavin King. The lead was doubled before the break, a powerful far post header from Michael Parker after a deep cross from a wide position by Davies. In the second half, Wingate & Finchley stepped up their passing game and began to create real chances, the best of which fell to Murat Karagul who somehow managed to head the ball wide when it seemed easier to score. With subsitutions taking the pace out of the game late on, it eased to a walking pace. Despite the 2-0 defeat, there were more positives to take away from the game than negatives. Performances from Max Mitchell in midfield and the young Anderson Pinto particularly noteworthy. Team from: Gavin King, Marc Weatherstone, Paul Wright, Danny Nielsen, Lewis Jones, Max Mitchell, Mark Henry, Murat Karagul, Anderson Pinto, Leon Smith. Rolling subs: Ola Williams and Dave Norman
